Colden Auditorium, Queens College, 65-30 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, NY
Colden Auditorium was named after the State Supreme Court Justice of two terms in the 1940s. Colden was the founder of Queens College. He passed away in 1960. In continuous operation since 1961, the auditorium provides an accessible and affordable facility to enrich the cultural environment of the region with classical and pop performances for general audiences, schooltime concerts, arts education programming for children, and family events.
The wood-floor stage is of open concert design with a permanent acoustic shell that can be transformed into a proscenium-type theatre by hanging standard black legs and partially closing the main curtain. The large apron of the stage lowers via hydraulic pit elevator to become an orchestra pit accommodating up to 60 musicians. Colden Auditorium is equipped with 3-phase, 200-amp company switches that will accommodate additional lighting and sound. The backstage area consists of two star and two chorus dressing rooms.
Seating capacity 2117.
