"Luis Gasca had a residency at a Broadway club called Andre's, and all the
musicians hung out there, particularly the Santana band. Jerry Garcia
definitely hung out there, but whether just a few times or often is
unclear. In any case, there was a big after hours jam scene with heavy
players at Andre's."(1)

I frequently played both before and after hours.

ReplyDeleteAlso did the first rehearsals at the nightclub in the afternoon hours for Betty Davis's first record I produced. I brought in Neal Schon guitar, Douggie Rouch bass, Doug Rodriguez guitar, Betty..... myself drums. Can't recall if there was a keyboard present until we went in the studio (Wally Heider's) which would have been Merl Saunders or Nicky Hopkins. Sooo long ago, but FOND MEMORIES!

ReplyDeleteHi Greg,
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments. Any chance you can recall the exact address of Andre's? Can you recall if Garcia ever performed at Andre's?
