Binder Gym, Hartwick College, One Hartwick Dr., West Oneonta, NY

The roots reach back to 1797 with the founding of Hartwick Seminary through the will of John Christopher Hartwick. Another notable educator was Frederick S. Binder, the first president of Hartwick College (est. 1927)

Hartwick's beautiful 425-acre campus is located in Oneonta, NY, in the northern foothills of the Catskill Mountains. The campus is literally built into the side of Oyaron Hill and has a breathtaking view of the Susquehanna River valley.

Binder Gym has undergone a major renovation which was completed in August 2008.  The facility, which the College ear marked $750,000 towards improvements, has a new playing floor for both basketball squads as well as Hartwick's volleyball program.  New lights, painted walls and new bleachers also highlight the project.
The Binder facility also houses Moyer Pool, the home of Hartwick's water polo and swimming programs.
For years the gym in Binder Athletic Center on the campus of Hartwick College was just plain
“ Binder.”

As of Feb. 21, 2009 it may be just plain “Lambros” after it is renamed in honor of Oneonta native Nick Lambros, the Hawks legendary basketball coach.
Lambros, whom many consider the best all-around athlete the city has ever produced, was interviewed from Florida where he was visiting his daughter after the news surfaced in the past few days.

Tarps at either end of the gym fell to reveal large, blue letters spelling ``Lambros Arena.'' (3)

  1. As always, thanks for the reference! It looks like you have the college name misspelled in the title (twice). Just FYI on the typos. Nice pix!
